Week 2, Term 2

Our science experiment today was all about mold! We will be growing mold over the next few weeks to see see how we can influence it's growth. We have pieces of wet bead in all sorts of interesting places in our classroom at the moment so we can observe how light, dark, heat and moisture directly influence the growth rates. Having a debrief at the end, most  ODC students think that the wet bread they have placed on the window sill will grow the most mold. Hmm.... watch this space!

Hmmm.Where will we find dust in our VERY clean classroom??? On top of the door of course!
And behind boxes on the very top shelf!
Adding dust and water to our bread to see how this influences mold growth.

Noting where the dust came from that is on this bread. Tracey has a theory....the dust collected from the computer key boards will have a greater affect on the bread than the dust collected from the shelves!
We will come back to this experiment in a few weeks time to see what affect the dust, water, light and heat have had on the bread!

WE love doing challenges at ODC, so today, for the first time in AGES, we completed a tram 4x4 challenge. Our challenge was to create the tallest tower possible that would hold the weight of a large marble, with newsprint, straws, ice block sticks, a paper cup,  2 pieces of pasta and some cellotape. Great team efforts and a chance to practice our habits of mind and creative and critical thinking skills.
