End of year ANTICS

To finish off our year of DISCOVERY, we had a shared lunch. Everyone had to bring something along that they thought no one would have tried before. Among some of the more unusual food we DISCOVERED was haggis and mushy peas. Thanks Callum, Kitty and Lily! Most of us had a taste of the haggis and didn't find it to our liking EXCEPT Lily J! She had about 3 helpings!!! Go Lily!

Melissa was very clever and made these biscuits. She made each Habit of Mind and a buscuit for all the other things that make up an ODC day.

4x4 challenges are always popular at ODC and what better way to finish off the year with a Santa themed one! The challenge was to make a Santa and Fairy costume out of newsprint, crepe paper, some string, card and sellotape. A present had to also be given to me and a song/poem written. Lots of laughs were had!

Have a safe holiday everyone!! See you next year.

Monday, December 5, 2011

Wednesday class finished off their Spanish lessons with making some traditional Spanish food.
Tortas Fritas, Alfajores Maizena and Empanadas Criollas.

It is tradition that at ODC we finish our year with some scrummy food from the country of which language we have been studying.

Betty was off to Taiwan for Christmas, so we celebrated our Mandarin learning before she left.

First up was Hongdou Tangyan (Glutinous rice balls in red bean soup)

This is a dessert. Very sweet! The rice balls weren't very nice on their own though.

Next  up was Jiaozhi (Dumplings)

Last was Fantuan (Rice Parcels)

Let the eating begin!

We have just crashed landed back to 2011 after being sent back in time to investigate how life used to be. Which Ancient Civilization had the best quality of life?

And the sharing on information begins, so that our community can make an informed choice as to which civilization they'd like to travel back in time to......

And the civilization that our community thought had it right????????

The Romans!! Go the Romans!! I'm sure it had something to do with the amount of public holidays that they had each year!!!

You all did a fantastic job and I am proud of you all!
